How do we live with our addictive—digital section

Digital technology was already so woven into the fabric of everyday life that it no longer needed a special label, nor social commentary, nor propagandists (Coyne,2015). Technology seems in a way has been speeding up human life ever than before and we adjusted it so well that the mechanical gadgets used to be ubiquitous few decades age, are now existing as a activist movement. The meme above taunt the man is using a typing machine also sarcasting people living in digital generation no longer seen mechanical objects as normal. As Cramer suggest that in 2013 using typing machine is no longer an old school action but a deliberate choice (Cramer, 2013). The development of science and technology is irreversible. In the age of information technology, people’s lives are difficult to separate from science and technology. In my opinion post digital is not indicate that we should abandon digital technology and live like a luddite thoreau, but always aware that is an option. life has more pleasurable moments out of screen.

People worry that their lives will eventually be eroded by technology, losing the ability to reveal their true feelings. But living in a world without modern digital technology will instead be isolated from the mainstream world. However, it does not means that we will have to adjust and live with the changes that digital technology evolve us to be. Just as technology is diversified, using technology to bring more possibilities to life, rather than being limited by the changes brought about by technology.

Interestingly, on the other hand, digital culture itself are emerging. For example App Slowly which advertise that can “bring the traditional pen pal experience to your smartphone”. The App will calculate the distance from you to the pen pal that you matched by system selecting the people that sharing same passions as you to pass the letters in a certain time. The friend who told me about the application explained to me his experience with the app,”you spend more time on thinking, because it usually take days to receive a letter. It is not like simply send a message from your phone .” This hits me like thunder crossing the sky, I almost forgot we could also write each other in that way. He read me several letters between them, nothing personal to be known, but small notions of life. To write peacefully, this could be something that modern commuter need in their hectic life.

Using technology to resist technology may not belong to the post-digital culture, but its connection cannot be ignored. Both have common goals, but the way to achieve them is different. Stopping in a sense is also a step backwards. People’s thoughts can evolve, and technology can develop in a more humanized way.
